半决赛中，两人将再次碰上日本组合川边悠阳与松川健大。双方上周才在台北公开赛首圈交手，当时大马组合先声夺人，以21比9拿下首局，惟随后遭对手以20比22、14比21连扳两局，最终遭逆转淘汰。

A Home Away From Home for Caregivers in Sandakan

When his father was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital (DOKH) in Sandakan for bone tuberculosis, 37-year-old Thadius Naim did not think twice about becoming his primary caregiver.

However, caring for a loved one far from home came with challenges he had never anticipated.

Living in Kampung Berayong, Telupid, about 130 kilometres away from Sandakan, Thadius knew he could not take a break without someone else stepping in to care for his father.

For the first week, he and his sister took turns staying by their father's bedside while renting a nearby homestay. When his sister had to return to work, he became the sole caregiver and had to stay in the ward.

"That was when I started feeling mentally exhausted. It wasn't physical fatigue. It was the emotional strain. The sounds of the monitoring machines in the ward kept me awake almost every night. There was nowhere to dry my clothes, so I had to hang them inside the cupboard and hope they would dry,” he recalled.

As a small-scale farmer, he simply could not afford to continue paying for accommodation, leaving him with no choice but to stay in the ward.

After weeks of sleeping in the ward and enduring the emotional strain, relief finally came when a relative who worked at the hospital told him about Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage.

Although he had heard about the facility previously, Thadius was initially unsure whether he would be eligible to stay there. After seeking clarification from a ward nurse, he learnt that the facility was intended for caregivers who live far from the hospital and was subsequently guided through the application process.

"I submitted my application to the hospital's Medical Social Work Department, and it was approved immediately. I was brought to the facility and given a room. It was so comfortable," he said.

For the first time since his father's admission, Thadius was able to rest properly.

"I could finally sleep well, take a proper shower, wash my clothes and dry them. The facilities had everything I needed. There were washing machines, wardrobes, Wi-Fi, and everything was very clean.

"I am truly grateful. It made a huge difference and had helped me endure that difficult period,” he said adding that he stayed at the facility for two weeks until his father passed away.

His story is just one of many that demonstrates the enduring impact of Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage. Established in 2021 through a collaboration between PETRONAS, Yayasan Kebajikan Negara and DOKH, the facility provides temporary accommodation for caregivers and family members accompanying patients at the hospital.

For Yusmawati Yunus, the facility also became a source of comfort during one of the darkest chapters of her life.

The 51-year-old mother of two, who worked as a shop assistant in Kampung Suan Lamba Estate to support her family, had to leave her job when her husband suffered a stroke in December last year.

Her husband was initially taken by ambulance from Suan Lamba Health Clinic to Kinabatangan Hospital before being transferred to DOKH, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"I spent the entire night waiting around the hospital compound because caregivers were not allowed inside the ICU. We were also not allowed to sleep outside the ICU. My mind was filled with worry—not only for my husband, but also about where I would stay while caring for him.

“I did not have the money for a hotel or any other accommodation. Thankfully, the next morning, a security guard told me about Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage and suggested that I speak to the nurse on duty.

“The nurse gave me an application form, and I completed it immediately. I realised that the facility was meant for people in circumstances like mine—those who had travelled from far away and were struggling financially.

“After the paperwork was completed, I was offered a room. The only payment required was a refundable RM10 deposit. It was such a huge relief during a very difficult time.”With accommodation no longer a concern, Yusmawati was able to devote her full attention to her husband.

As his condition deteriorated, doctors advised her to prepare for the worst. She immediately contacted her two children and asked them to come to Sandakan.

"They travelled by bus from Suan Lamba to Sandakan, and Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage was kind enough to accommodate them which enabled them to be close to their father in his last moments. I am very thankful for that,” she shared, adding that her husband passed away after spending two months in the hospital. Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage is open to caregivers of patients residing more than 25 km from the hospital. The facility is designed to support those caring for family members undergoing long-term hospitalisation who are financially challenged and unable to secure accommodation at their own expense.

Beyond providing shelter, the facility offers something equally valuable to caregivers facing uncertain circumstances — peace of mind, dignity and the opportunity to rest.

According to DOKH Director Dr Mohd Fahmie Othman, the facility has significantly benefited patients and their caregivers.

"For patients, knowing that their caregivers have a safe and comfortable place to stay helps reduce anxiety. The same applies to caregivers, who can focus on supporting their loved ones instead of worrying about accommodation," he said.

Dr Mohd Fahmie added that the facility has helped address practical challenges faced by families who travel long distances to seek treatment in Sandakan.

"Sometimes caregivers arrive with young children when a family member is admitted. Through the Medical Social Work Department, we can arrange for them to stay at the facility.

"Without it, many caregivers would either remain in the wards which is not ideal or undertake long journeys home and back, which means leaving their loved ones unattended for a long time," he said.

He also noted that spending time away from the wards contributes positively to the wellbeing of caregivers.

"Being constantly in a hospital setting can increase stress and anxiety. At the facility, caregivers can rest, recharge and return better prepared — physically and emotionally — to care for their loved ones,” he explained.

Today, the facility stands as a testament to how strategic social impact investments can continue creating value long after a project is completed.

Thadius and Yusmawati’s stories reflect the enduring role that Anjung Kasih Kent Cottage continues to play for countless families whose loved ones are admitted to DOKH Sandakan. Years after opening its doors, the facility remains a vital source of support, easing the practical and emotional burdens of caregiving during some of life's most challenging moments.

Two-month bonus in store for Sarawak civil servants, says Abang Johari

SARIKEI (Aug 8): Sarawak civil servants could receive a two-month bonus, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg giving an early indication of the incentive ahead of the tabling of the 2027 State Budget.

Abang Johari said the state government’s improved financial position indicated that it could afford to provide additional incentives to its civil servants.

“Civil servants will also receive a two-month bonus. I am revealing this early, even though the Budget has not been tabled yet.

“The Budget is only for next year, so I am saying this early. God-willing, it will be two months,” he said when officiating the sixth edition of the Sarawakku Sayang programme here.

He said there were positive indications that Sarawak’s revenue this year would enable the government to provide the bonus.

“I can tell you that there are signs that our revenue this year will, God-willing, allow us to do so,” he said.

Abang Johari said Sarawak’s revenue had doubled during the first five years of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, rising from about RM7 billion previously to RM14 billion.

“Alhamdulillah, during the first five years of PCDS 2030, Sarawak’s revenue has doubled. When I first became Chief Minister, our revenue was about RM7 billion.

“Today, it has increased to RM14 billion,” he said.

He said the stronger financial position had enabled the state government to fund major development programmes, including free tertiary education for Sarawakian students.

“With the funds available, we can develop the state, including providing free education to our children.

“We have also been able to increase the allowances for Temenggong, Pemanca and councillors, as well as provide bonuses to our civil servants,” he said.

For Sarikei, Abang Johari said the division had significant potential in tourism, agriculture and the wider economy, particularly with improved connectivity and the planned expansion of Tanjung Manis Airport.

“We will expand Tanjung Manis Airport so that it can at least accommodate ATR aircraft. With better connectivity, we can develop the surrounding areas as tourism destinations,” he said.

He said Sarawak’s mangrove resources could also generate new revenue through carbon trading.

“Carbon trading is becoming part of the global economy. Mangrove areas are among the best natural systems for storing carbon.

“Sarawak has the largest mangrove national park in Malaysia, so we must study how this can generate revenue for the state,” he said.

On healthcare, Abang Johari said the state government would consider adding 10 dialysis machines at Sarikei Hospital.

“We can consider adding 10 dialysis machines at Sarikei Hospital so that patients do not have to travel far for treatment,” he said.

He also announced that Sarikei would receive a new stadium as part of the government’s continued development of the division.

“Sarikei does not have a stadium. So, let us provide a stadium for Sarikei,” he said.

Also present were deputy premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; and State Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

原本直奔日本台风“白海豚”将登陆中国

（北京8日讯）今年第13号台风"白海豚"逐渐逼近中国，预计周日晚上到周一早晨登陆浙江省，强度达到台风级到强台风级。

新华社报导，"白海豚"算得上是今年西北太平洋较为特殊的台风之一。"白海豚"的路径预报多次大幅西调，从原本大概率登陆日本，转为直面中国华东沿海。

"白海豚"7月27日诞生在东经177度附近，已接近北太平洋日界线，生成位置之偏东在影响中国的台风中极为少见。如今，它已经历了5次眼壁置换，奔袭超4700公里，一路横穿大半个西北太平洋，堪称台风中的"马拉松选手"。

浙江省气象服务中心高级工程师范蕾说："这种远距离生成、长期维持强度的台风在历史上十分少见，超长移动周期里，大气环流会发生巨大变化，路径变数自然成倍增加。"

前期预报台风直奔日本，却在短短几天全线西调直奔中国沿海，范蕾解释，核心操盘手是副热带高压，再加上多台风相互拉扯的双重作用。

"今年副热带高压异常强盛，7月至8月牢牢控制中国东部、东北上空。副热带高压如同横在台风北侧的巨型空气墙，南侧稳定吹东风气流，推著'白海豚'沿北纬25度附近持续稳定西行。"范蕾指出，如果副热带高压保持完整带状不分裂，那么台风就无法向北突围，将进入东海，并在中国登陆。

浙江省气象台预测，"白海豚"正以每小时10至15公里的速度向偏西方向移动，强度变化不大或略有增强，将于周日晚上至周一早晨在浙江省温州市苍南县到宁波市象山县一带沿海登陆。

周六早上8时前后，"白海豚"外围云系已经触及浙江，舟山市、宁波市等地出现明显降雨回波，强风雨将逐渐展开。

中央气象台首席预报员许映龙表示，与今年第9号台风"巴威"相比，"白海豚"局部风力有可能超过"巴威"，且降雨的强度更强、范围更广，局地单点降水具有极端性。

22 Indonesians jailed two months for using fake MyKad

KLANG - Twenty-two Indonesian nationals are sentenced to two months in prison after pleading guilty to using fake identity cards as identification documents at the Klang magistrate’s court here on Friday.

The accused comprised 21 women and one man, aged between 28 and 51, who were found to have committed an offence under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007).

The National Registration Department (JPN), in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, said all the accused were arrested on Thursday at a factory in Port Klang during an integrated Op Getah operation conducted with the Immigration Department and Selangor Labour Department.

“After the charges were read out before the court, all the accused pleaded guilty.

“The court subsequently sentenced all the accused to two months in prison, effective from the date of their arrest, which was Aug 6 (Thursday),” it said.

The proceedings were heard before magistrates Nor Azilah Mat and A Khartiyayini.

JPN added that the prosecution was conducted by JPN prosecuting officers Md Shahedan Md Taib, Zulkarnain Ahmad and Mohd Ramzi Adnan, while the instructions for the charges were issued by JPN deputy public prosecutor Sufi Aiman Azmi.

JPN stressed that enforcement efforts would continue to be intensified to curb the misuse of identity documents and ensure the integrity of the national registration system remained protected.

Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that more than 70 local and foreign nationals were inspected during the Op Getah operation, which began at 3pm.
